Chapter 3: Live Broadcast

The interview was arranged by a media company that had a long-term collaboration with Morning Star Entertainment. The interview questions were disclosed in advance, so they just needed to prepare flawless answers.

However, since the interview was live, there would be audience interaction, and a few questions would be selected from the live comments.

Therefore, after returning home, Xia Linxia was repeatedly reminded to memorize Ji Fengxue’s biography and preferences thoroughly, so she wouldn’t mess up at a crucial moment.

But Xia Linxia never listened obediently. She only skimmed through it casually before bed.

As a result, she couldn’t sleep.

In a half-awake state, she suddenly sat up, murmuring, “Damn, what’s her favorite movie again?”

She turned on the bedside lamp and checked her phone; it was already 3 a.m.

There was a new friend request on WeChat, sent by Ji Fengxue around 1 a.m. The profile picture was a tiny snowflake, and the WeChat name was a simple period.

She rubbed her eyes, remembering that there was a question in the interview about their WeChat names, so she accepted the request.

[Xia Linxia]: Hello, smile.jpg

[Ji Fengxue]: Still awake?

[Xia Linxia]: Just providing some late-night care for an elderly insomniac, smile.jpg

[Ji Fengxue]:

[Ji Fengxue]: Get some sleep. See you tomorrow.

Ji Fengxue, lying in bed, turned off the soothing music in her Bluetooth speaker and finally felt a hint of drowsiness. Just as she turned off the lamp and prepared to sleep, her phone buzzed again.

[Xia Linxia]: Sharing an article with you [To Live Long, You Must Do These Three Things: The First Is to Avoid Staying Up Late, The Third Is Surprisingly… ]

[Xia Linxia]: Sharing an article with you [Experts Say, Every Extra Minute You Sleep Brings You Closer to Death]

[Xia Linxia] withdrew a message.

[Xia Linxia]: Sharing an article with you [Overworked Writer Dies Suddenly, Bald Before Death, Too Tragic!]

Ji Fengxue: “…”

Haha.

A soft laugh suddenly echoed in the quiet room, fleeting. Ji Fengxue turned the lamp back on and sat up, her sleepiness gone. She stared at Xia Linxia’s chat box and sighed: Bad girl.

The next day, when Xiang Huaimeng arrived to pick up Xia Linxia, she noticed the dark circles under her eyes and scolded, “Xia Linxia! Did you play games all night again?”

“No.” Xia Linxia yawned, and seeing that Xiang Huaimeng was about to nag again, she kicked the door. “Don’t talk, I’m mad.”

“Mad about what?” Xiang Huaimeng asked. This young lady always had a temper in the morning, but despite being angry, she was surprisingly easy to talk to—a real contradiction.

As expected, Xia Linxia angrily confessed, “I forgot what movies Ji Fengxue likes! And her favorite fruits! My god, why does she have so many favorites? Can’t she just be a simple, desireless nun?”

Xiang Huaimeng thought it was fortunate there were no outsiders around and tried to soothe her. “Think about how many things you like. Your file is three times thicker than hers.”

Xia Linxia blinked slowly, then suddenly froze. “That’s true.” She was happy again.

Thinking about how Ji Fengxue had to memorize her long list of preferences, she felt the weather was exceptionally good today. Later, she would test Ji Fengxue’s knowledge, hehe.

At the company, the makeup artist touched up her makeup, and she asked, “Where’s Ji Fengxue? Isn’t she here yet?”

“She’s in the next room changing. She’ll be here soon,” the makeup artist replied.

Xia Linxia straightened her already tall posture. “Quick, give me a stunning makeup look, one that makes her want to kneel and call me daddy!”

The makeup artist: …Are you making things difficult for me or for yourself?

After the makeup was finished, Xia Linxia suddenly glared at the makeup artist. “This is the stunning makeup look?!”

Xiang Huaimeng couldn’t hold back her laughter. “It’s fine, you look great, youthful, and cute!”

In the mirror, Xia Linxia saw herself wearing a fitted top and high-waisted, wide-leg pants that hid her skin but made her legs look longer. She had a silk jacket with patterns like a dragon robe, very flamboyant, but her hair was styled in cute Nezha buns.

Arrogant yet adorable.

Ahhhh! Xia Linxia was going crazy. These buns were too cute. How could she regain her ground? She should never have dozed off!

“Take them down, redo it.”

“This…” The makeup artist was reluctant.

Xia Linxia narrowed her eyes.

The makeup artist bowed her head in resignation. “Alright.”

At that moment, there were two knocks on the door. Fu Xiaoxuan peeked inside, saw Xia Linxia, and froze for a moment before awkwardly asking, “It’s you. Where’s Sister Xue?”

Xia Linxia looked down at her nails, not responding.

The makeup artist, sensing the tension, broke out in a cold sweat. Although they were both trainees from the same company and debuted in the same group, Xia Linxia and Fu Xiaoxuan never got along. Fu Xiaoxuan clearly preferred their former group leader, which put her at odds with Xia Linxia.

After the group disbanded, Xia Linxia’s career flourished the most, while Fu Xiaoxuan likely endured a lot of these cold stares.

Thinking of this, the makeup artist tried to ease the awkward atmosphere. “Miss Ji went to change her clothes.”

“Okay, thanks.” Fu Xiaoxuan gave the makeup artist a sweet smile before leaving.

The makeup artist smiled back but was startled to see Xia Linxia staring at her with emotionless, almond-shaped eyes. “Do you all prefer this type?”

A chill ran down her spine. It seemed she had angered this young lady. Awkwardly, she smiled. “No, we like you too. If you toned it down just a little, you’d have fewer haters. So, what hairstyle do you want? I can do anything.”

“No need.” Xia Linxia stood up indifferently and walked out, leaving behind a light remark, “This is who I am. If you don’t like it, tough luck.”

Xiang Huaimeng, unusually quiet this time, asked after a moment, “Where are you going?”

“The dressing room.”

“You’re not going to eavesdrop, are you?”

“Nonsense, I’m going to listen openly!” Xia Linxia gritted her teeth. “Ji Fengxue is my woman now. It’s my duty to keep her away from all…” She narrowed her eyes and smiled wickedly. “White lotus flowers.”

Xiang Huaimeng: “…”

As she approached the styling room door, she heard Fu Xiaoxuan’s melodious voice. “Sister Xue, you don’t really like Linxia, do you? You know how much she used to bully people, she even made Yuran cry several times… She doesn’t deserve someone as good as you.”

Xia Linxia took a deep breath, clenched her fists, and felt a rush of righteousness. She was about to knock on the door when she heard Ji Fengxue’s voice. “I’m the one who doesn’t deserve her.”

Fu Xiaoxuan: “How can that be? We all know how great you are, you’re so gentle and considerate, just like Yuran…”

“Enough. Did you come to me just to say these things?” Ji Fengxue interrupted her coldly. “I have an interview to attend. If there’s nothing else, let’s leave it at that.”

Fu Xiaoxuan wanted to say more, but the door suddenly opened, and a mocking voice sounded. “Fu Xiaoxuan, you really are like a ghost that won’t go away. Come out here, or I’ll bash your head in.”

Fu Xiaoxuan frowned and lowered her head as if about to cry, hiding behind Ji Fengxue.

Xia Linxia thought to herself, this level of acting is too low. She had seen much more sophisticated white lotus types before. How dare she use these cheap tricks on her?

“Fu Xiaoxuan, didn’t you hear me? Don’t make me get physical.” Xia Linxia’s tone was heavy, feeling the righteous anger inside her about to explode.

Before anyone could react, Ji Fengxue stepped forward, intending to say something, but an inappropriate sound interrupted her.

“Pfft—”

Ji Fengxue: “…”

Xiang Huaimeng: “…”

Xia Linxia: “…”

Her righteous anger had betrayed her!

Fu Xiaoxuan, standing farther away and not having heard the sound clearly, was confused by the changing expressions on everyone’s faces. “What’s…?”

“Haha, it’s really hot today, huh.” Xia Linxia laughed awkwardly, hooking her arm around Ji Fengxue’s neck and pulling her out. “Baby, let’s go to the interview.” As they walked away, she whispered, “Don’t you dare say anything, or I’ll throw you off the building.”

Ji Fengxue nodded.

Still uneasy, Xia Linxia glanced at her again, fuming. “Don’t you dare laugh! If you laugh, I’ll pull out your teeth!”

Ji Fengxue tried hard to suppress her smile.

Behind them, Fu Xiaoxuan stood at the door, watching their intimate backs, her expression darkening. She pulled out her phone to make a call but suddenly frowned.

Hmm? What’s that smell?

In the interview room, the live broadcast equipment was set up. The two walked in arm in arm, and the company employees couldn’t believe their eyes. Even though they worked at the same company, the idea of Xia Linxia being in love was hard to believe.

Everyone knew that Xia Linxia had a strained relationship with the former group leader, Xiao Yuran, who was friends with Ji Fengxue. So, Xia Linxia and Ji Fengxue had never interacted much, even though they had been in the same company for six months.

Who would have thought they’d secretly start dating!

“Sit down.” Xia Linxia sat boldly on the sofa, patting the seat next to her, one hand behind Ji Fengxue, ready to pinch her if she embarrassed her.

Opposite them sat the host from the live streaming platform, who greeted them.

The live broadcast began, and the viewer count quickly surpassed a million. Xia Linxia alone had over fifty million Weibo followers, and although Ji Fengxue had been low-key with few works recently, her fan base remained.

Moreover, this was their first live interview since announcing their relationship. Fans and onlookers were intensely curious!

[First! Checking in to see the couple! Xia Xia, you look stunning as always! Ji Xian Nu, you’re so ethereal!]

[I still can’t believe they’re dating! How did it happen? Why?!]

[Also curious, ah ah ah, I see they’re wearing matching earrings!]

[They look so good together, oh my, I need my binoculars to cleanse my eyes!] 1

After greeting the audience, they quickly moved on to the main topic.

The interview started smoothly, and both of them answered the initial questions with ease. The host smiled and said, “We have some questions from the audience. Are you ready to answer them?”

“Of course,” Xia Linxia replied confidently, flashing a charming smile at the camera.

The first question appeared on the screen: “What was your first impression of each other?”

Xia Linxia smirked, “My first impression of Ji Fengxue? Hmm, I thought she was cold and unapproachable.”

Ji Fengxue looked at her and added, “And I thought Xia Linxia was too loud and overbearing.”

The audience loved their banter, and comments flooded in:

[They’re so honest, lol!]

[Opposites really do attract!]

The next question was more personal: “What’s your favorite thing about each other?”

Xia Linxia turned to Ji Fengxue and said, “What I like most about her is her perseverance. No matter how tough things get, she never gives up.”

Ji Fengxue smiled softly and replied, “I admire her energy and passion. She’s always so full of life, and it’s contagious.”

The audience melted:

[Aww, that’s so sweet!]

[They’re perfect for each other!]

The next question from the audience was the one Xia Linxia had dreaded: “What’s each other’s favorite movie?”

Xia Linxia hesitated, trying to recall what she had read. She glanced at Ji Fengxue, who subtly nodded, giving her a hint.

“Her favorite movie is ‘In the Mood for Love’,” Xia Linxia said, relieved when she saw Ji Fengxue nod in agreement.

“And Xia Linxia’s favorite movie is ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’,” Ji Fengxue answered smoothly.

The host, holding the predetermined questions, asked, “The netizens are curious, when did you two confirm your relationship?”

Xia Linxia quickly responded, “About half a year ago. She joined the company and found me quite beautiful, so she started pursuing me. I thought, she’s alright, so I just went along with it.”

Beside her, Xiang Huaimeng widened her eyes. The plan clearly stated that they fell in love at first sight and gradually got deeply involved through prolonged interaction!

[Hahaha, ‘she’s alright’? You’re saying our Fairy Ji is just ‘alright’?]

[Oh dear, can’t imagine that!]

[Just from Xia Linxia’s expression and tone, I seriously doubt this relationship!]

[This seems fake. There’s no love in their eyes at all, it looks a bit awkward.]

The two agents monitoring backstage were panicking. Chen Nian signaled to their artist.

Ji Fengxue glanced at Xia Linxia and smiled, like a beautiful flower blooming on a snowy mountain, stunning the audience. But to Xia Linxia, it felt like an avalanche.

“Yes, the day I joined the company and saw this young girl, she was like a blazing sun, striking me instantly. I pursued her for a while, and I’m grateful she was willing to look back at me.”

Xia Linxia’s hand shook, unintentionally touching her back: “…”

Damn, is this what an award-winning actress’s performance is like?

Damn, that was amazing.jpg

[Aaaaah! Fairy Ji’s eyes are so tender! The love-at-first-sight story is too sweet!]

[Wow, Fairy Ji knows how to compliment people. Our baby Linxia is indeed like the sun!]

[I’m shipping it, thank you!]

[Are you all brainless fans? I don’t think Xia Linxia likes Ji Fengxue. It seems forced. Look at their distance, their upper bodies are close, but their knees don’t touch. Subconsciously, they still don’t want to get too close.]

[You talk too much. If you’re so good at analyzing, why not join the FBI? No, go dig up the earth!]

Xia Linxia, still immersed in Ji Fengxue’s gaze, almost believed her if she didn’t have a grudge list with her name on it!

It’s time to test real skills!

She turned her head, smiled, and suddenly hugged Ji Fengxue tightly. Smiling like a fool in front of the entire nation, she declared, “Baby, don’t worry. I will treat you well. If I have something to eat, you’ll have something to eat too!”

Ji Fengxue smiled gently at the camera, appearing moved, then whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear, “You mean, eat shit?”

Xia Linxia: “…” Damn you, woman.

The audience cheered and clapped at this hug, their excitement reaching a peak, only to be abruptly halted.

The next moment, Xia Linxia, who had been smiling happily, pushed Ji Fengxue away and pouted, “Everyone, I think I want to break up.”

The audience: ???

Xiang Huaimeng, Chen Nian: Not allowed!!

T/N:
1 “[They look so good together, oh my, I need my binoculars to cleanse my eyes!]” – The idea of needing binoculars to “cleanse” one’s eyes suggests that the sight of the couple is so overwhelmingly beautiful that it’s almost too much to take in all at once.

  1. I love these two already.

A small edit note, it’s the pants that are high-waisted, not the top. You mixed them last chapter too. Thanks for your hard work c:
