Chapter 2
Bai Ye sat in a daze for a long, long time before she finally accepted the reality that she seemed to have transmigrated.
She sat blankly on the soft hospital bed. The room was spacious, equipped with advanced medical instruments. A screen partitioned off a nearby lounge area. The atmosphere was completely different from the noisy, chaotic rural clinic earlier. It was quiet—if you ignored the two people at her bedside, fussing over her and constantly expressing concern.
“Manman, you’ve differentiated into an omega—are you really not feeling uncomfortable? Should I call the doctor to check on you again?” The beautiful woman who had hugged Bai Ye tightly earlier leaned in gently to ask.
Bai Ye shook her head, her voice faint: “…No need. I’m not uncomfortable.”
Her voice was soft and cottony, the kind that made people’s hearts ache. Totally different from her usual energetic, crisp voice full of spirit.
“Really? But you don’t look well—your face is pale, and you seem out of it, and…” The woman trailed off. She wanted to say her daughter looked dazed and not quite right. “Maybe I should call the doctor just in case?”
The man beside her noticed her hesitation and quickly reached out to hold her hand, shaking his head gently. “It’s normal after differentiation. Dongyun, lower your voice—you’ll wake our Manman.”
“You were like this when you differentiated?” she glanced at him, skeptical.
“When I differentiated, I had a headache for an entire week before I started to recover.” He nodded and gave Bai Ye a little wink.
“Hanyi, you omegas are just delicate,” she said with a teasing “tsk” before quickly realizing her tone, turning to Bai Ye with a loving smile, instantly gentler. “Manman, don’t misunderstand! Mama didn’t mean to say you’re delicate—I just had a slip of the tongue… You know Mama talks without thinking sometimes.”
Bai Ye nodded, still dazed.
After listening to the man and woman chatter for a while, Bai Ye more or less understood: she had transmigrated into the body of a girl named Ye Qingman, who also had her birthday today and also underwent differentiation—into an omega.
The beautiful woman in front of her was Ye Qingman’s mother, Ye Dongyun, who was incredibly gentle with her—but in truth, was a hot-tempered alpha, quick to explode.
The man with short, neatly combed hair and gold-rimmed glasses, with a pale scholarly look, was Ye Hanyi, Ye Qingman’s omega father.
“…”
“…”
In just a few sentences, Ye Dongyun and Ye Hanyi were holding hands lovingly, exchanging smiles, and then both turned soft, affectionate gazes toward Bai Ye.
The room quieted. Warm golden light from the setting sun streamed in through the window, coloring the bed linens in red hues. The entire room was filled with a soft, warm atmosphere.
It felt like… a home.
The kind of “home” Bai Ye had dreamed of, longed for, every day and night.
Bai Ye opened her mouth to speak, but before she could make a sound, Ye Dongyun noticed and immediately grabbed her hand anxiously:
“Manman? What is it—are you feeling sick? Do you want water?”
Ye Hanyi didn’t say anything, but his face showed the same deep concern.
For the first time in her life, Bai Ye felt what it was like to be cared for by parents. Her nose stung, and tears welled up. She wanted to call out “Mom” and “Dad”—but hesitated, afraid that this was just a beautiful dream she might wake from at any moment.
“I…” Bai Ye bit her lip and whispered, “I want to go to the bathroom.”
“Eh? Alright, alright—Mama will help you.” Ye Dongyun said “help,” but she was practically ready to scoop Bai Ye up in her arms. If Ye Hanyi hadn’t stopped her, she might have followed her right into the bathroom.
This was a VIP hospital room in a private hospital—the bathroom was spacious and brightly lit.
Bai Ye didn’t actually go. Instead, she walked to the vanity mirror and stared into it.
Reflected was a beautiful little girl. Her smooth black hair flowed to her waist, her forehead covered by bangs, and underneath was a pair of apricot-shaped eyes. Her pupils were a deep black, shimmering like stars in a galaxy under the bathroom lights. Her skin was white and delicate, her face petite—beautiful and sweet beyond words.
Bai Ye still looked dazed, which made the girl in the mirror look even more adorably clueless, like a doll you’d want to hug tight and squeeze.
“Aww…”
Bai Ye stared for a while, then let out a soft gasp, eyes blinking as her cheeks slowly turned red.
She was overwhelmed by how cute she was—QAQ.
At twelve, Bai Ye already had a sense of appearance. She had always thought her own face was pretty—but this? How could someone look so cute and beautiful at the same time?
…
“Manman? Why are you taking so long?”
She had been admiring the reflection for a while when a concerned voice called from outside. Bai Ye quickly snapped back: “Uh… Almost done! I’m just a little… constipated…!”
“…Huh?”
Outside, Ye Dongyun blinked. Her daughter was usually quiet and composed, and had never said anything so loudly—much less used a word like constipation in front of them. But she quickly chalked it up to post-differentiation fog—her daughter wasn’t quite herself, which was understandable.
She immediately responded, “Alright—if you run into any problems, remember to call for me or Daddy, okay? We’re just outside.”
“Okay!” Bai Ye replied with a firm nod.
She turned on the tap and splashed a handful of cold water on her face. The icy shock cleared her head. Her dazed expression faded, replaced by the lively, spirited look that was her usual self.
Bai Ye looked at the mirror again. The doll-like little face now had a spark of energy—that unmistakable Bai Ye brightness. Only now did she truly accept it: she had transmigrated, just like in the novels. She was in the body of a pretty little girl, with a mom and dad who loved her, in a warm, caring home.
It was the life she had always dreamed of.
She lifted her shirt and pinched her waist hard. It hurt. Her delicate skin turned red. Nothing changed—this wasn’t a dream! Bai Ye didn’t know how she’d come to this world, but one thing was clear:
Her wish had come true.
In that moment, Bai Ye stared into the mirror, wanting to laugh out loud, wanting to leap up and run around the room, to shout with joy—the excitement flooded her.
But soon, she opened the door and saw the two people waiting nearby. The moment they heard her, they turned toward her with concern.
Her nose stung again. Tears burst from her eyes uncontrollably.
Home. Family. Mom and Dad…
She had a family now. She had parents now. She was no longer the abandoned child.
“Manman—?” Ye Dongyun rushed to her in a heartbeat, wrapping her tightly in a warm embrace. Ye Hanyi stood up and came over too, gently asking what was wrong.
Bai Ye couldn’t speak. Her throat was sore and tight—but not like before. This time, her heart was full of happiness.
Wrapped in Ye Dongyun’s arms, her warmth surrounding her, the air itself seemed to carry a calming scent.
Bai Ye didn’t stop crying. In fact, she sobbed harder, curling into Ye Dongyun’s arms.
“…Mama,” she whispered.
