Chapter 25: Information
In those few seconds of standing there in a daze, Su Mi’s mind was flooded with the same question:
When did she offend Li Zhao?
Did she?
Is there really someone who has such simple malicious amusement?
Su Mi panicked for a moment and decided to give up thinking about it.
She pressed her lips together and looked at Shen Han.
It seemed that today she had thoroughly offended the villain inside and out.
Su Mi couldn’t hide her guilt, not even able to muster her usual apologetic expression. She wasn’t even sure why she felt guilty, just staring at Shen Han blankly.
On the other side, Shen Han had her hands in the pockets of her suit jacket, stepping aside to let Li Zhao pass by to the elevator, her tone calm, “Bored?”
Li Zhao laughed, “Your sister is quite amusing.”
Shen Han didn’t respond, her gaze shifting to Su Mi standing in front of her.
It was rare; her expression seemed genuinely fearful.
It wasn’t the usual half-pretend, half-pleading fear, but rather a true expression of worry that Shen Han might actually do something to her.
What could she do? It was just a few jokes from Li Zhao.
Shen Han pressed her lips together, realizing she was indeed a bit annoyed.
Li Zhao, who had been observing her, hesitated and then looked at her with growing interest, even pausing her steps towards the elevator.
“Suddenly remembered something I forgot to tell you, Shen Han. How about we have dinner together?” she invited.
The elevator doors slowly closed behind her, but Li Zhao didn’t care, watching Shen Han with interest, and then asking Su Mi, “Sister, want to join?”
Shen Han said, “Is there something that must be said over dinner?”
Li Zhao smiled brightly, “It’s been a long time since we met. I feel like you’ve changed a lot. Let’s catch up!”
She seemed eager to grab Shen Han’s arm but didn’t actually touch her for some reason.
Shen Han frowned slightly, giving her a sideways glance, “Be normal, Dr. Li. Have you arranged for Nanqiao’s mother’s hospitalization? Does the family need to stay overnight?”
Li Zhao said, “That can be arranged in a minute…”
Her tone changed suddenly, “But indeed, I should check. When I left the ward with your sister, the patient seemed unwilling to stay. I’ll go and settle it.”
She walked past Shen Han, and as she passed by Su Mi, she took her hands out of her pockets, waved them, and gave a wink.
“See you later, sister.”
Su Mi ignored her.
She finally managed to compose herself and anxiously watched Shen Han walk up to her.
Stammering, she said, “Sister…”
Although she had no reason, she managed to make her tone sound particularly pitiful.
Shen Han looked down at her with droopy eyes, sighed slightly.
She said, “Are you an idiot?”
At this point, Su Mi was willing to agree with anything Shen Han said.
Although she didn’t understand why the term “idiot” was brought up.
Maybe Shen Han thought she was an idiot for being played by Li Zhao?
Su Mi quickly nodded, “Yes, exactly.”
She pondered for a moment, feeling that Shen Han’s tone wasn’t too bad.
It didn’t seem like she was blaming her.
After nodding, she looked at Shen Han expectantly, trying to make up for herself.
“Dr. Li was just talking nonsense. I have deep admiration for you, like a river flowing endlessly. How could I say such things? Sister, you believe me, right?”
Shen Han’s expression didn’t show whether she believed it or not, she just said coldly, “You’ll definitely regret it?”
Su Mi’s expression froze.
That was what she had said to Shen Han in a fit of anger.
She hesitated for a moment and then reluctantly admitted, “Sister, you know, I’m an idiot…”
She blinked her eyes at Shen Han, smiling ingratiatingly, showing a look of obedience.
It was clear: I admit I’m an idiot, but you can’t say anything else.
Shen Han squinted slightly, as if she wanted to say something but didn’t.
Instead, she asked, “Finished visiting the patient?”
Su Mi: “…Yes!”
At the same time, she cheered inwardly.
It seemed that the matter was over for Shen Han.
Though there might be small troubles like at the parent-teacher meeting—
But at least she wasn’t really angry.
Su Mi’s smile widened, and she happily followed Shen Han into the elevator.
As the elevator descended, Su Mi felt a bit regretful, thinking that Shen Han hadn’t actually visited the patient. She didn’t know if that was good or bad.
Seeing Xu Rou’s demeanor and temper, Shen Han probably wouldn’t have received a warm welcome even if she went in.
She murmured to herself, “I wonder what illness Xu’s mother has that requires hospitalization.”
Shen Han said, “You can ask Xu Nanqiao.”
Su Mi sighed, “It’s not easy to ask. Dr. Li is from the Second Gender Department. If she’s in charge, it’s probably a gland or mental issue?”
Shen Han said coldly, “Then you can ask Dr. Li.”
“Really?”
Su Mi took it seriously, considering it seriously, feeling conflicted.
On one hand, she found Li Zhao inexplicably annoying. She hadn’t done anything to offend her, yet Li Zhao had smeared her in front of Shen Han and done some very inappropriate things.
On the other hand, Li Zhao seemed to know a lot about Shen Han’s mental issues. If she could establish a good relationship, it might help with the task of lowering Shen Han’s blackening value.
She bit her lip, thinking hard, when suddenly Shen Han turned around.
Cool fingers pinched her cheeks on both sides, not too hard, but firm.
Her tightly clenched lips were forced open, forming a round shape.
Su Mi looked up blankly.
Shen Han pinched her face, lifting it slightly, looking down at her, seemingly dissatisfied, said, “Smells like alcohol…”
Su Mi: “Huh?”
Shen Han said coldly, “Li Zhao is not a good person. Don’t get too close to her. If you have too much enthusiasm, you can help some stray animals.”
“Al-alright…”
Su Mi mumbled in agreement with her mouth half open.
The elevator dinged, arriving at the underground garage. Shen Han let go of Su Mi and walked out first.
A light bulb went off in Su Mi’s head.
If she couldn’t ask Li Zhao, couldn’t she ask the villain herself?
She quickly caught up, rubbing her slightly sore cheek, and bravely asked, “Sister, you said Dr. Li is not a good person, but you listened to her and didn’t go into the ward.”
Shen Han: “I said, follow doctor’s orders.”
Su Mi pretended to be worried, “Are you seeing her for treatment? Are you sick?”
Shen Han found the car, opened the door, her tone casual, “It’s an old issue.”
Su Mi didn’t get in the car, leaning beside Shen Han and the car door, looking up at her.
“Sister never told me,” she muttered.
She felt that Shen Han was easy to talk to right now, so she pressed on.
“…”
Shen Han put one hand on the car door, raising the other to place it on Su Mi’s shoulder.
Her fine eyelashes fluttered, the ice-blue eyes beneath them unblinking, carrying a hint of scrutiny.
Shen Han’s breath was cold as frost, with a light, nonchalant smile, “Because I didn’t want my sister to worry.”
Clearly refusing to say more.
She added, “You don’t need to worry so much. Just prepare for the exams.”
Su Mi responded dejectedly, then moved her shoulder, preparing to leave.
Shen Han looked down, paused, then said, “After the exams, do you want to attend a family banquet at the Shen family?”
The offer came unexpectedly, as if Shen Han hadn’t fully thought it through. After saying it, she frowned slightly.
Su Mi: … Huh?
She hadn’t really wanted to attend.
Did the villain misunderstand something again?
Her eyelashes fluttered quickly, and Su Mi instinctively responded, “Sure!”
“Get in the car.”
Shen Han stepped back slightly, no longer cornering Su Mi between herself and the car.
Before lowering her hand, she gently patted Su Mi’s cheek.
Like comforting a small dog.
The questioning ended.
Su Mi got into the passenger seat and was driven home by Shen Han.
A driver from Nanyuan was waiting in front of the Su family’s house.
Su Mi naturally didn’t let Shen Han park for her, letting her stop by the roadside, and walked with her to the Shen family’s car.
Standing under the streetlight, Su Mi waved at Shen Han.
Shen Han nodded to her, then got into the car, which drove away.
… This strange day finally ended.
Su Mi let out a long breath.
She checked the blackening value, finding no changes.
Not bad.
Though her behavior might have confirmed her role as an idiot to the villain.
Thinking of this, Su Mi felt a bit frustrated, especially about what Shen Han said about the family banquet…
She wondered what kind of predators awaited at the Shen family. As an idiot… no, she wasn’t an idiot.
Su Mi shook her head, almost brainwashed by her interactions with Shen Han.
She, a simple citizen, attending a grand family banquet, might get swallowed whole by some rich lady here and a bastard child there.
Su Mi shivered a little, parked the car in the garage, and ran back home in a flash.
After the parent-teacher meeting, school life returned to its familiar busy and regular routine.
Xu Rou was discharged from the hospital the next day, and Xu Nanqiao returned to school to continue studying and preparing for exams.
It was said that Xu Rou insisted on being discharged. When talking about this, Xu Nanqiao seemed a bit worried but couldn’t go against her mother’s wishes.
As the university entrance exam approached, everything else seemed to take a back seat to this important test.
Even visits to Nanyuan became less frequent.
In the two months leading up to the exam, the visits were reduced to once every two weeks.
At first, Su Mi was worried that the blackening value might reach critical levels, but she found that ever since the parent-teacher meeting, Shen Han’s blackening value had been increasing at a much slower pace.
A month before the entrance exam, Shen Han flew abroad.
Zhuang’s secretary notified them to focus on their exams and not to come over.
Su Mi asked her parents and learned that it was one of Shen Han’s regular trips to relax.
It made sense. The villain certainly had her own ways of dealing with stress.
It wasn’t like she couldn’t function without Xu Nanqiao.
However, Su Mi believed that even while abroad, Shen Han would still think about Xu Nanqiao.
She would occasionally send Shen Han messages, openly and secretly reporting on Xu Nanqiao’s situation.
Such as:
: Look! The medal from the dessert competition ^^ Xu Nanqiao went to pick it up. She was very happy (PS: Xu Nanqiao’s mother has been discharged)
: Today, I had ground chicken pot with Xu Nanqiao at the school gate. It was delicious!
: The results of the second mock exam are out. Xu Nanqiao treated me to milk tea ^^ [Attached picture: Xu Nanqiao and I clinking glasses with milk tea]
: The school organized a sports meet, and Xu Nanqiao and I both signed up for tug-of-war TAT. I’m really bad at it, but Xu Nanqiao, an Omega, is very strong and helped our class win! Amazing [/thumbs up]
: Pre-exam motivation! [Attached picture: Xu Nanqiao giving a speech on stage] [Attached picture: A selfie of Xu Nanqiao and me wearing motivational headbands]
: We are both in the AA exam room and will go to the exam together tomorrow [/fist bump]
Shen Han would usually reply with one or two sentences.
Because of this, Su Mi became more confident, feeling that her actions were genius, perfectly meeting Shen Han’s needs.
She secretly asked Secretary Zhuang about Shen Han’s return schedule and was told that Shen Han still had half a month left on her vacation.
Su Mi specifically reminded Secretary Zhuang to inform her immediately when Shen Han returned.
Secretary Zhuang, who still believed Su Mi had a crush on Shen Han: …
It’s quite straightforward.
He agreed with mixed feelings and reported it to Shen Han.
He also subtly suggested: Miss Su seems to miss you a lot.
Being a diligent and responsible secretary, he didn’t wait for Shen Han to respond but shared a screen showing the return flight tickets around the exam dates.
Shen Han: …
She raised her head in surprise, looking at Secretary Zhuang.
Secretary Zhuang timely said, “The project in the eastern part of the city is in its final bidding stage. You can check on it when you return.”
Shen Han thought it was unnecessary, but her wrist communicator vibrated.
It should be another daily report from Su Mi.
Shen Han paused.
Fine.
She tapped her finger on the corner of the screen.
“Book this one.”
Author’s Note:
Shen Han: She’s so clingy, sending me messages every day during the exam period. What if I’m flooded with messages after the exam?
