Chapter 22: Motion Sickness
On the way to pick up Su Yi, Su Mi seriously reflected on herself.
The biggest mistake was speaking too much and suggesting sending Shen Han home.
Being a bootlicker is indeed a hard habit to break.
Although it’s not too aggrieving, Shen Han is just a bit cold. She is indeed pleasing to the eye.
The leader she had in her past life was unattractive, spoke more arrogantly than Shen Han, and was even more petty.
Compared to that manager, Shen Han is simply a kind-hearted person.
But then again, doesn’t Shen Han have her own cars? Why did she insist on being driven by me?
Her thoughts went into a dead end, and Su Mi scratched her head, warning herself.
Su Xiao Mi, think about the good aspects of this.
Anyway, Shen Han was already in her car, and if everything goes smoothly, she can directly take her to visit Xu Nanqiao.
Although the villain would visit anyway—Shen Han cares about her that much.
Su Mi was worried that Shen Han might say things that Xu Nanqiao would find excessive, just like last time.
Raised in privilege, Shen Han’s perspective is much higher than theirs. Even without malice, her words might hurt the sensitive Xu Nanqiao.
Considering this, Xu Nanqiao’s consistent dislike for the villain might be due to such reasons.
Su Mi exhaled, feeling that she was doing her best for the task, even wanting to handhold and teach them how to fall in love.
This thought flashed by and was quickly dismissed by herself.
Of course not, she only relied on the system’s knowledge supplement, actually having zero practical experience, and not planning to practice in the future.
The ride was silent, Shen Han resting in the passenger seat. Su Mi activated the intelligent driving system and sent a couple of messages to Xu Nanqiao.
“Should I bring Shen Han to see you?”
“Which hospital are you at?”
This time, Xu Nanqiao saw it and replied with a location.
Xu Nanqiao: “You can come. There’s nothing serious.”
She didn’t resist Shen Han coming along either.
Su Mi was delighted.
Could it be that Shen Han’s gesture of sending her to the hospital today unexpectedly increased her goodwill?
So she sped up the car.
The rapid acceleration was too much for her, and she hesitantly slowed down a bit.
Su Yi’s preschool was in a clubhouse where the Su family lived. Su Mi drove at a lightning speed, performing a smooth drift, and parked at the entrance of the clubhouse.
Although the smooth parking drift was all thanks to the intelligent control system.
Su Mi boasted, “Sister, was I fast?”
Shen Han slowly opened her eyes.
Her slightly tired gaze swept over, Shen Han said hoarsely, “With your driving style, next birthday, I might consider giving you a walker like those in Nanyuan.”
Su Mi: “Huh?”
Worried, she leaned closer to check Shen Han’s face and eyes, which seemed normal.
She almost breathed onto Shen Han’s face.
The latter closed her eyes and said, “You can get even closer.”
Su Mi realized Shen Han was speaking sarcastically, shut her mouth, and obediently retreated.
She thought to herself, “Shen Han’s mood is like a barometer, constantly changing.”
They got out of the car, and Su Mi scanned her access privileges with her light brain, following the guidance of the clubhouse staff, up the stairs to the lounge outside the activity room.
The lounge was decorated with various small tables and chairs.
The door inside led to the activity room. Su Mi peeked through the glass observation window but didn’t see Su Yi in the main area.
There were several rooms inside the preschool, so Su Yi might be playing in another room.
Next to it was a sensor that could connect to view the surveillance of each classroom.
The staff had already notified the teacher inside.
Turning back, Su Mi saw Shen Han sitting in a chair by the side.
Her long legs were crossed under her skirt, leaning back lazily, an unusual posture for her.
Elbows resting on the armrests, she massaged her temples lightly.
This behavior…
Even an idiot could tell something was wrong.
Su Mi finally came up with a guess.
Could it be, the villain is car sick?
Thinking about how she adjusted the smart driving system’s speed just now…
Su Mi was startled. She walked over and bent down, concerned, “Sister, are you okay?”
Shen Han opened her eyes.
Su Mi noticed for the first time, under the car’s dim lighting, that Shen Han’s eyes had noticeable red veins.
The answer was obvious. Su Mi was speechless.
Shen Han’s gaze was lazy, with a hint of helplessness.
“Finally figured it out?”
She spoke calmly.
Su Mi obediently and apologetically hummed.
She immediately raised her hand beside her face, swearing, “Next time I drive you out, I’ll drive smoothly and steadily, no more speeding sports cars.”
She smiled ingratiatingly, trying to make amends, “Sister, should I get you some water? What helps with car sickness?”
Shen Han: “Water is fine, thanks.”
Su Mi’s eyes sparkled, “Your business is my business, it’s what I should do!”
She pushed the door open, fetched a full cup of water by herself.
Returning to the lounge, before she could hand the water to Shen Han, the activity room door opened.
A short, chubby little dumpling walked out, looking up at Su Mi, calling loudly, “Sis…sister!”
It was Su Xiao Yi!
Su Mi’s eyes lit up. She put the water cup on the table next to Shen Han and rushed over.
She picked up Su Yi and spun him around twice.
Su Yi giggled, eyes squinting, laughing happily.
Putting Su Yi down, Su Mi gave her brother a big kiss on his soft, fragrant cheek.
Su Yi tugged at Su Mi’s leg, pointing inside the activity room, “Play, play!”
The teacher explained, “When you arrived, Xiao Yi was building blocks inside. He wanted to build a big house but hadn’t finished.”
“Oh! Okay.”
Su Mi patted Su Yi’s little head, smiling, “Sister will play with you!”
Caught up in her brother’s cuteness, Su Mi carried Su Yi and rushed into the activity room.
The blocks Su Yi wanted to build weren’t complicated. Su Mi sat on the floor with him, playing for a while. Suddenly, she realized:
The villain…was left outside resting?
Though she had fetched water.
Though the lounge environment was nice, well-ventilated, with attentive staff, leaving Shen Han to rest there seemed like a good arrangement…
But…
How could she forget about the boss when she saw her brother!
An epic fail in her bootlicking career!
Su Mi took a deep breath.
Feeling a bit restless.
Worried Shen Han might leave out of impatience, Su Mi hurriedly finished building blocks with Su Yi.
To her surprise, Shen Han was still sitting outside when she walked out with her brother.
Head down, looking at her light brain, one hand supporting the armrest, hair tucked behind her ear, head slightly tilted.
No staff were around, the lounge very quiet.
Su Mi glanced at the water cup beside her, noticing the water level had dropped by more than half.
It seemed drinking water helped…wait?
Why were there splashes around the water cup?
No way Shen Han did this herself, right? Car sickness causing shaky hands? Unlikely.
Besides…
Su Mi felt guilty, recalling when she saw her brother coming out, she had placed the cup on the table.
At that time, maybe…some water splashed out?
Okay, it probably was her.
My God.
What had she done today?
First, Shen Han found that paper full of Xu Nanqiao’s name, then she made Shen Han car sick, spilled water while giving it to the villain, and got carried away seeing her brother, forgetting about Shen Han.
Can she and this world see the sun tomorrow?
Su Mi anxiously checked the blackening value.
Thankfully, it hadn’t changed.
But the petty villain surely kept it in mind, planning to find trouble for her later.
Su Mi mentally sobbed, carrying her brother over and squatting down.
“Xiao Yi, this is Sister Shen Han, say hello?”
Trying to use her cute brother to awaken Shen Han’s compassion.
Su Yi babbled, “S…Han! Sister!”
He couldn’t pronounce “sh” properly yet.
His adorable babbling quickly dispelled Su Mi’s apprehension.
Su Mi laughed, looked at Shen Han with a smile.
About to speak, she paused.
Shen Han still didn’t look well, seeming listless.
Her smile turned into undisguised concern.
Witnessing this change, Shen Han adjusted her words.
Without beating around the bush, Shen Han asked flatly, “You remember there’s still a living person here?”
Su Mi: “…” So direct.
Her heart skipped a beat, but she still said awkwardly, “Not intentional… See, isn’t Su Xiao Yi cute? Xiao Yi, do you remember Sister Shen Han?”
Shen Han looked down at Su Xiao Yi, who was biting his finger.
Her expression unchanged, she reached out to pat Su Yi’s round head.
“He’s grown so much.”
Shen Han had attended Su Yi’s full-month banquet, Su Mi vaguely remembered.
She naturally took Shen Han’s head-patting gesture as a sign of improved mood.
Smiling, Su Mi said, “Yes, kids grow fast! Hehe, now he loves calling ‘sister’ the most.”
She demonstrated.
Su Mi: “Xiao Yi, call sister.”
Su Yi: “Sister!”
Both had the same bright smiles. Shen Han glanced at them, saying, “Your relationship with him is quite good now.”
The seemingly casual remark nearly wiped Su Mi’s smile away.
Is the villain suspicious of something?
She quickly checked with the system to confirm her character hadn’t deviated. Since it was reasonable, there was an explanation.
But too much explanation might make her seem overly concerned, so Su Mi hummed in agreement, brushing it off, “Xiao Yi is so cute, of course… Sister, shall we head back now?”
Shen Han nodded, standing up gracefully.
Su Mi carried her brother, following beside Shen Han as they left the clubhouse.
After getting some fresh air, clearing her head from the cuteness overload of her brother, Su Mi asked, “After I drop my brother home… Shall we visit Xu Nanqiao in the hospital?”
According to Wen Zisu’s earlier message, he should already be home by now.
Shen Han seemed a bit puzzled, “Visit for what?”
Su Mi, confused, said, “Her mother… um, is in the hospital?”
Shen Han: “Sure.”
Su Mi: “…”
Why the attitude, acting like you don’t care when you are the one most concerned and want to visit the most?
I am your insider and loyal follower!
When they reached the sports car, Shen Han took over the driving controls.
Without saying anything pleasant, she coldly mocked Su Mi’s driving skills and threatened to take back the car she had given her if she drove like that again.
Su Mi, smiling, said, “Sister, you are the best to me. Adults don’t hold grudges against children!”
Shen Han, expressionless, started the car.
Su Mi, holding Su Yi, sat in the back, feeling secretly pleased.
The boss is driving me!
Go ahead and mock me a bit more, it’s totally worth it. I can brag to everyone later, saying, “Did you know Shen Han drove me? Shen Han, the head of Shen Group… Yeah, she drove while I sat in the back.”
She wanted to place Su Yi in the child seat in the back, but he clung to her, insisting she sit with him.
So Su Mi ended up sitting in the back seat.
From the back seat, she saw Shen Han’s smooth and fluid movements as she started the car, switching to manual driving mode.
Her elegant hands on the steering wheel, the gemstone ring on her pinky finger reflecting light into the back seat, casting a small light spot.
Bored during the drive, Su Mi entertained Su Yi by telling him stories.
Su Xiao Yi, with eyes like purple grapes, noticed the light spot and pointed with his short finger, “Circle!”
Su Mi: “What?”
She looked up at the car ceiling, seeing nothing.
Annoyed, she pinched Su Yi’s cheek, “Sister is telling you a story, can’t you focus, Su Xiao Yi!”
When she looked back, she inadvertently met Shen Han’s gaze in the rearview mirror.
Su Mi quickly looked away, only then realizing that the gaze seemed oddly…appreciative.
She likes watching people coax children?
In the driver’s seat, Shen Han returned her gaze to the road.
The girl in the back was energetically telling an old fairy tale, her voice bright and lively.
Such stories, Shen Han had heard many times in her childhood.
Maybe it was too childish, and the girl’s enthusiastic storytelling was somewhat amusing.
She chuckled softly.
Zhuang’s secretary’s speculation was indeed far-fetched. The girl treated everyone the same. It seemed Zhuang had no romantic experience. Next time, she might give him a long holiday.
But she also seemed to be laughing at herself.
Casually switching the car back to intelligent control, Shen Han closed her eyes, the story in her ears transforming into vivid, dust-covered memories.
Like an intense headache from an almost fractured spirit.
Author’s Note:
Sorry for the delay! I went to Harbin for a couple of days, used up my saved drafts. I’ll be on time tomorrow at 3:00.
(Special ops tourism is really not for a desk jockey like me, nearly exhausted me TUT)
