Chapter 10: Delicious!
Su Ciyu and Shen Han’s mother were old friends and confidantes. Later, when the Su family fell into decline, it was Shen Han’s mother who continuously provided support.
The original plot did not delve into Su Mi’s family background. It was only briefly mentioned that after Shen Han’s mother passed away, Shen Han took caring for the Su family as one of her mother’s dying wishes, treating them better than her own relatives and even considering Su Mi as a god-sister.
However, in reality, Shen Han barely paid any attention to what the original character did under the title of her god-sister.
Not paying attention is also a form of indulgence. After Su Mi differentiated into a Beta and experienced a psychological gap, her greed grew more and more, constantly causing trouble for the protagonist, whom she saw as having “taken” her place.
It wasn’t until someone exposed Su Mi’s bullying of Xu Nanqiao to Shen Han that Shen Han became aware of her little follower’s actions.
Shen Han did not show any sentimentality—if there was even a one-in-a-million chance that it existed—and quickly withdrew all the privileges the original character and the Su family had received under her protection.
No matter how much the original character begged and apologized, Shen Han never gave her a second glance.
Therefore, knowing the original plot, Su Mi naturally did not believe a single word of Shen Han’s promises of “I’ll take care of you.”
But on the surface, she still made a very touched expression.
She blinked, unable to squeeze out any tears, but that was fine.
She sincerely looked at Shen Han and declared her loyalty: “I understand, sister. I’ll also do my best to help you!”
Shen Han raised an eyebrow in confusion.
Her calm and expressionless face clearly said: “What can you do to help?”
But she was not interested.
At some point, the “cigarette” Shen Han had been holding between her left fingers had disappeared.
She lowered her eyes and waved her hand listlessly.
“Alright, you can go now. If you need anything, find Secretary Zhuang.”
Naturally, Su Mi obediently agreed. Before leaving, she hesitated.
“Uh, sister, should I still take Xu Nanqiao to Nanyuan tomorrow?”
Shen Han: “Yes.”
After leaving the observation room and with the heavy door closed behind her, she was back in the brightly lit hallway.
Su Mi finally dared to let out a deep breath.
She felt as if she had broken out in a cold sweat, and her earlobes inexplicably felt hot.
She reached up and touched the star-shaped earring on her earlobe.
The sensation was very noticeable and burning hot.
This earring usually maintained a special coolness, but now its temperature was making her earlobe and even the side of her face feel warm.
Su Mi asked for directions to the restroom, where she splashed cold water on her ears and the sides of her face.
Physical cooling.
In the bright mirror of the restroom, the girl with shoulder-length light blonde curls lifted her head and looked at her white-and-pink face in the mirror.
Water droplets slid down her face, and Su Mi tilted her head, gradually feeling the heat in her earlobe subside.
The girl in the mirror also tilted her head.
Her expression was somewhat indifferent.
Su Mi tried to imitate the expression Shen Han had shown in front of her earlier.
A very slight smirk, eyes lowered as if looking down on herself, raised eyebrows…
Well, it looked quite idiotic.
That kind of majestic aura was indeed not something she could pull off.
Su Mi sighed softly and walked out of the restroom, almost jumping in fright.
Secretary Zhuang was quietly standing at the door.
Su Mi clutched her chest and said, “Secretary Zhuang, you nearly scared me to death.”
As a male Alpha, don’t you find it strange to be waiting outside a women’s Beta restroom?
Secretary Zhuang’s expression didn’t change, and he said, “My apologies.”
There was no sincerity, but Su Mi accepted it.
While Secretary Zhuang led her out, Su Mi threw out a curious question: “Secretary Zhuang, why are those six people here?”
Secretary Zhuang gave a very official explanation: “The place you were in is the back side of Anse, a division of Shen’s hospital that specializes in handling special cases in cooperation with the inspection agency. Anse’s security is excellent, and keeping those six here can completely avoid any issues from their past criminal records being discovered by their enemies.”
Su Mi pondered this and realized what was happening.
It seemed like the person who sent those “sisters” wanted to send people to eliminate them.
Su Mi asked, “But those people seem to have been turned into Betas?”
Secretary Zhuang replied formally, “Rest assured, the Shen family has always been the most law-abiding enterprise in Shoucheng1, with friendly relations with the inspection agency, never dabbling in the gray area. For criminals involved in Omega assault cases, processing their glands is completely legal. The only involvement from President Shen in this matter was to expedite the heavy sentencing and make sure they suffered a bit during the procedure.”
Su Mi exhaled lightly.
As long as it’s legal.
Now, the important thing is that she’s hungry.
After school, she was taken by Secretary Zhuang. Although Lorlan Academy finishes at five o’clock, which is quite early, after all this running around, it was now past seven.
Finally relaxing, the feeling of hunger swept over her.
Sitting in Secretary Zhuang’s business car, she asked, “Secretary Zhuang, have you eaten?”
Secretary Zhuang: “I ate while you were in the room.”
Su Mi: “…”
She immediately gave Secretary Zhuang a look of accusation.
The stern secretary’s expression didn’t change, and he naturally reached into the compartment between the seats, pulling out a small box and handing it to Su Mi.
Suspicious, Su Mi opened the box and was surprised to find some assorted snacks inside: small biscuits, chocolates, milk candies, and small bread…
Su Mi stared at the small bag of snacks for a while before asking, “Secretary Zhuang, did your partner pack these for you?”
After all, Secretary Zhuang looked like the kind of person who only ate healthy meals in his spare time, occasionally brewing coffee and cooking steak at home.
Cutting out sugar should be a top priority, right?
Secretary Zhuang said, “These are mine. Thank you for your concern, Miss Su.”
Su Mi: “…Thank you.”
She didn’t hesitate to take out a piece of chocolate and two candies, closing the box and putting it back in the middle compartment.
As the car drove into Su Mi’s neighborhood, she could recognize the lights of her house from a distance.
When Secretary Zhuang parked the car, she thanked him again and practically sprinted into the house with her schoolbag.
She opened the door to find a gentle-looking man with light blonde hair sitting on the sofa reading.
Su Mi changed her shoes and obediently greeted, “Father.”
Wen Zisu put down his book, looked up, and asked, “Have you eaten?”
Su Mi shook her head, deliberately pouting as she rubbed her stomach, whining, “I was taken to my sister’s right after school by Secretary Zhuang and didn’t get a chance to eat anything…”
Wen Zisu’s expression softened with concern. He stood up, took Su Mi’s hand, and led her to the kitchen, saying, “Next time, no matter what, make sure you eat something before running errands for your sister. Food is essential. Your stomach is already weak, and with your body’s condition due to your glands, you need to eat well and nourish yourself. Understand?”
Su Mi nodded quickly, agreeing, “Yes, yes.”
As they entered the kitchen, Su Mi curiously asked, “So what now?”
Wen Zisu gave her an exasperated look and said, “Are you so hungry you can’t think straight? You missed dinner, so I’m going to cook you something.”
“Oh, oh!” Su Mi’s eyes lit up, and she leaned against the door, full of anticipation.
They had a cook for their meals, and occasionally Wen Zisu or Su Ciyu would prepare simple breakfast foods. But as for proper meals, they were always made by the cook.
Su Mi had never eaten a meal prepared by her parents.
She clung to the kitchen door, watching Wen Zisu take out ingredients from the fridge, put on gloves, and wear an apron…
It seemed Wen Zisu rarely cooked; he fumbled for a while before he couldn’t tie the apron strings properly.
Su Mi was enjoying the show when Wen Zisu called out to her, “Ya Ya, come help me tie this.”
!
Su Mi quickly ran over, bent down, and carefully tied the apron strings, even making a neat bow.
Then she refused to leave the kitchen.
Like a little puppy begging for food, she followed Wen Zisu around, watching everything he picked up.
When Wen Zisu finished preparing the ingredients for the first dish and took the cooked meat out of the pan, Su Mi eagerly asked, “What will this taste like?”
Wen Zisu chuckled, picking up a piece of meat with chopsticks and giving it to her. Watching Su Mi chew with satisfaction, he helplessly said, “Is there something you’re missing from your diet? Why are you so hungry?”
Su Mi seriously replied, “Delicious!”
Wen Zisu asked, “Should I skip the seasoning? Just cook the meat with salt and soy sauce for you?”
Su Mi squinted and nodded earnestly, “Yes!”
“Out, out, out,” Wen Zisu said, helplessly, “Don’t cause trouble here. Your brother’s been asking for you all dinner. Go upstairs and play with him; I’ll call you when dinner’s ready.”
Su Mi reluctantly agreed, “Alright…”
Just as she turned to leave, Wen Zisu added, “Xiao Yi has been fussy. Why don’t you eat a few more pieces of meat first? Or you can go find him after you’ve eaten.”
Su Mi turned back and grinned, “No need, father, take your time. I’ve missed Xiao Yi all day.”
Wen Zisu said, “Alright, go on then.”
Su Mi waved, “Bye-bye~”
Wen Zisu said, “You’re going out? Why are you saying bye?”
Su Mi happily went upstairs.
In the past week, Su Mi had completely adapted to her new family’s routine.
During the day, Wen Zisu and Su Ciyu were busy with work, so they would send Su Yi to a daycare in the neighborhood or sometimes bring him to Wen Zisu’s office, though that was rare.
So, typically, after dinner was their family time, playing games or reading stories with Su Yi.
Before her differentiation, the original character barely participated in these family activities. As a teenager, she spent most of her evenings hanging out with friends, not returning until curfew.
Su Mi’s timing was fortunate. Right after her differentiation, she had to rest for a while, even after the official period ended. Due to pretending to be a Beta and her not fully recovered body, she was required to come home every day for dinner.
Every evening, Su Mi would come home, eat with her family, then return to her room—her parents probably thought she was playing games—but she was actually studying, occasionally discussing questions with Xu Nanqiao and taking breaks to play with her brother.
She maintained a regular, healthy, and perfectly in-character lifestyle.
However, at this moment, Su Mi walked upstairs but didn’t go directly to her brother’s room.
She leaned against the wall, hesitating as she searched for something she had been thinking about.
“What is a cigarette with a blue flame?”
