Chapter 6: The Male Lead
The security team arrived almost instantly, flooding into the alley and quickly subduing the thugs.
In the chaotic and noisy alley, the rays of the setting sun slanted down, shining on the chestnut-haired boy in the school uniform, making his hair seem to sparkle.
The girl he was loosely holding by the wrist, Xu Nanqiao, looked up at him, her long black hair cascading like a waterfall, her face pale but still beautiful, with tears in her eyes, looking as fragile as if she could break at any moment.
Standing on the other side, Su Mi witnessed this scene.
—The system subtitles were vividly narrating the romantic encounter between the male and female leads right in front of her eyes.
Su Mi speechlessly told the system, “Shut up.”
But the way they stood there, one holding the other’s wrist and the other frozen in place, wasn’t right.
She took a deep breath and quickly walked over, wrapping her arms around Xu Nanqiao’s shoulders.
“Nanqiao! I was so scared!” Su Mi cried, her voice trembling with feigned distress.
The system rated her acting a 1 out of 10.
She deliberately pushed the male lead’s hand off Xu Nanqiao’s wrist.
But as she held Xu Nanqiao, Su Mi realized something was seriously wrong.
Was she scared?
Xu Nanqiao’s body was trembling even more than before.
Su Mi touched Xu Nanqiao’s forehead; it felt hot, covered in cold sweat.
“Nanqiao, are you okay?”
Su Mi looked at Xu Nanqiao in confusion.
Was she overly frightened?
“Do you really not know or are you pretending not to?” the male lead said, folding his arms. “Your Omega friend is being affected by these Alphas’ pheromones and is close to her heat period. The right thing to do is use a suppressant or take her to the hospital.”
Su Mi: Oh right, this is an ABO world…
She smiled at the male lead. “Thanks.”
Su Mi put Xu Nanqiao’s arm over her shoulder and helped her walk out. As they passed the male lead, she handed him the now-bloodstained golf club.
“A hundred thousand golf club?” the male lead said, intrigued.
Su Mi: “Yes, consider it a thank you for saving my friend. Clean it up, and you can sell it for a good price. Goodbye.”
Moving quickly, Xu Nanqiao barely managed to say a quick thank you to the male lead as Su Mi led her to the security team’s leader.
Both in their school uniforms, they scanned their student IDs and received a promise that the security team would handle the situation.
Given that most students at Loran Academy came from wealthy families, the school’s security team was highly professional and worked closely with the city’s security inspectorate. These thugs would definitely face consequences.
Fearing the male lead might catch up and cause more trouble, Su Mi quickly got Xu Nanqiao into her car and asked, “Nanqiao, do you have a suppressant?”
Xu Nanqiao, her face flushed unnaturally, seemed to be struggling to stay rational. After a moment, she softly replied, “No, I need to go to the hospital for an emergency suppressant.”
Su Mi set her optical computer to navigate to the nearest hospital. On the way, she couldn’t help but knock herself on the head.
Why was the system’s memory recall function so inconsistent? It hadn’t provided any information about “heat periods.”
Xu Nanqiao, somewhat more alert after resting, saw Su Mi’s self-reproachful gesture and tried to comfort her. “It’s okay… those Alphas’ pheromones were strong, but not enough to trigger a full heat period. I just need some rest and a suppressant.”
Su Mi: Another knowledge gap.
She nodded, half-understanding, and touched her earlobe.
Come to think of it, those thugs were Alphas.
Yet, as an Omega pretending to be a Beta, she hadn’t been affected like Xu Nanqiao.
The star-shaped earring’s edges were not sharp, and its cool touch radiated a unique presence.
It felt like it was continuously generating a shielding field.
Aunt Fu’s daughter must be an impressive researcher.
The sports car sped to the hospital, and Su Mi followed Xu Nanqiao’s directions to the Omega pheromone clinic.
Xu Nanqiao registered her information and went into the treatment room for some tests before receiving treatment for her induced heat period.
Left alone outside, Su Mi stared blankly at the treatment room door before turning to a nearby balcony and letting out a sigh.
At least, she had managed to interfere with this significant plot point of the male and female leads meeting.
Su Mi replayed the day’s events in her mind.
According to her test, the system’s rule that “major plot points must occur” seemed to just ensure the general occurrence of events without considering whether the results matched the original plot.
That means it’s controllable.
And as for the first step of building a good relationship with the female lead, the completion rate should be pretty good. I’ve taken most of the “hero saving the beauty” moment from the male lead, and since the female lead will be tutoring me, our relationship should improve steadily.
As for the male lead…
Su Mi recalled the plot.
In the original storyline of this world, the male lead is the “disgraced crown prince” of the largest family in South City, the Gu family. He was originally the designated heir but was deposed and exiled to the capital city due to certain events.
After arriving in the capital, the male lead played the part of an underdog, disguising his true identity. When asked if his surname had any connection to the Gu family of South City, he would dismissively say he was just from an insignificant branch.
Naturally, the profit-driven heirs of noble families didn’t take the male lead seriously. He enjoyed the freedom, living a solitary life, doing part-time jobs to solidify his image in others’ eyes, and in a way, biding his time.
After saving the female lead, their second encounter happened when the male lead was being mocked at school. Following a series of coincidences and misunderstandings, they quickly developed feelings for each other and fell in love.
So, the next goal is to improve the relationship with the female lead, enhance the villain’s image in her eyes, and disrupt the occurrence of the second plot event.
Moreover, the male lead’s behavior today…
Su Mi reflected on the male lead’s somewhat pretentious and odd behavior.
For the male lead to know that she had claimed the golf club was worth ten thousand yuan, he must have been listening from outside the alley wall for quite some time.
But why didn’t he show up earlier to save the female lead?
Su Mi noted this question.
In the original plot, the thugs cornered the female lead at the alley entrance, so the male lead, passing by, saw what was happening and heroically saved her.
But today, the male lead’s appearance was also peculiar…
Su Mi roughly sorted out her thoughts, stretched while looking out the hospital window, and prepared to go downstairs to buy a bottle of water.
The original protagonist’s body wasn’t used to frequent exercise, and after Su Mi’s recent activity, she finally felt the delayed fatigue.
Su Mi took the escalator down to the first floor, aimlessly looking for a vending machine.
She walked to what seemed like a side entrance of the hospital.
From a distance, she saw a few people standing there, with no vending machine in sight, so she turned to leave.
Unexpectedly, she heard a voice behind her: “Miss Su?”
Su Mi stopped and turned around to see Shen Han’s exclusive secretary, Secretary Zhuang, standing behind her with a slightly puzzled look on his usually expressionless face.
“Miss Su, what are you doing here?” Secretary Zhuang asked straightforwardly.
“I was just wandering around,” Su Mi replied. “What about you, Secretary Zhuang? What brings you to the hospital?”
Secretary Zhuang hesitated slightly and said, “Accompanying President Shen.”
Sure enough, where Secretary Zhuang appears, Shen Han is likely to be close by.
Isn’t this a great opportunity! Xu Nanqiao is nearing her susceptible period—although Su Mi wasn’t entirely sure of the specifics in this world, it would surely make her emotionally vulnerable—visiting her would be a great way to gain favor!
Su Mi’s eyes lit up instantly.
She asked with some concern, “Is my sister not feeling well?”
As she spoke, she glanced behind Secretary Zhuang, where a few bodyguards stood, but Shen Han wasn’t among them.
Secretary Zhuang: “President Shen is here for her regular monthly check-up.”
Monthly check-up.
Su Mi knew it must be related to Shen Han’s so-called “mental illness.”
Secretary Zhuang seemed about to say something more, but he was interrupted by a new message on his optical computer. He tapped a few times on the virtual screen, paused, and then suddenly looked up and asked, “Would Miss Su like to go up and see her?”
